Director, Rob Bowman needed to give form to the film's computer generated dragon to enable an actor to interact directly with it - ride under it's wing, dismount and slash into the dragon's womb to extract a slime and blood-covered egg.

To do this, two men sat inside the dragon’s body.  “It was a bit like being in an abattoir, but it was the warmest place in an otherwise freezing quarry”.

Artem had to build the head, body and one wing.  This was no mean feat, as the wing alone was 120ft long and needed to withstand the Irish winds whilst being transparent enough to show the vein structure when backlit!

The dragon was built in West London and then transported to a quarry near Dublin for filming.

"I just want to tell you what a great job you did. The dragon looks great and none of us can believe how fast you did it and the great price you gave us...I know I really want to use you again."
