This touching tale follows Toby - a sensitive, dimensionally challenged orphan – on his search for the family missing from his life.
Exploited and discarded by the strangers he affectionately calls 'mother' and 'dad', Toby returns to the orphanage, broken-hearted, where all his fellow orphans are waiting to take him back.
Artem were approached by writer/director Gary Hawkins to build all fifteen model sets used in the film. We dreamt up an imposing tower block, a rich man’s house and an interpretation of a Soho style red-light district - including some very bizarre sex shops and window displays.
Artem were very keen to work on this production as summarised by Rob Thomas, SFX Designer/Supervisor:
“ When we saw the initial drawings and story-boards we thought this would be a very stylish project.
We were given a lot of creative freedom, which made it enjoyable for all concerned.
Most of the films and commercials we work on require highly realistic model representations of a real thing. Toby the Square Boy allowed for some real free-thinking and creative interpretation.”
